Inspiration, in my opinion, can come from anywhere at anytime. It could be a person, a role model, or even a ideology or a belief.
Personally, I am a very competitive person. I openly admit that I don’t like losing, and usually take losing quite badly, and I believe this is my main inspiration to do some things that I do, especially when competing at sports or academically. I think competition is healthy and it gets the best out of people, and competing against people like me pushes me to succeed. However, there are people (Professionally and Personally) who I look to to try and improve myself.
My main example of my competitive nature is playing sports, especially football. Although this may seem slightly cocky, but I’m usually one of the better players I play with. However, coming with that comes an expectation, for me, to win all the time. There are professional footballers who are paid astronomical amounts of money who do not show the same passion. However, one that does is Steven Gerrard. Although I’m not a Liverpool fan, Gerrard always seems to be able to come up with something special to make sure that his team, whether Liverpool or England, come out on top. I take a similar approach to my game, and even though the stakes are a lot less, I like to take things upon myself to make sure I come out on top.
This mentality and passion for the sport is, in my opinion, an unwelcome rarity in the modern-day game. Gerrard clearly loves his club and country, as well as being a top professional off the pitch. Other players inspire me technically and are a joy to watch, like Cesc Fabreags, Xavi, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but Gerrard seems to gain an extra lung when his team are in trouble, and you can never count his team out when he is playing.
Another inspiration is more of the way of how I personally reflect on things. Upon his arrival on the mainstream comedy scene, notably on Mock The Week, I have became quite the fan or Russell Howard, and especially his show, Good News.
The modern-day world is always portrayed in such a negative way, with disaster after disaster on the news, and Howard, take a lighter view on the world, finding stories that are wacky and wonderful, as well as giving his light-hearted views on the more serious things in the news.
It’s a nice difference from the work at University which is concentrated on hard (and usually bad) news, to look at things from a different angle and to just smile at whats going on. For me, having fun is the most important thing possible, and Howard obviously sees things the exact same way, and that there is plenty of bad news for people to become depressed about, but whats the point in living if you’re not going to enjoy life.
However, like everyone, the main inspiration and motivation to being a success is for personal gain. Whether its the alpha male in me or not is another question, but I’ve always aspired to have the money not to worry about the things in life that people blow out of proportion, and to enjoy myself without the problems of bills and mortgages. Ohh, and a Aston Martin wouldn’t be the end of the earth either….especially the DB9…..Hmmm….
In Conclusion, my inspirations are quite strange, and are probably not even inspirations. However, there are 2 people in the media spotlight who I see myself most like, and then the sight of a nice bank-out too . I see myself as a joker (hopefully with the previous post, you do too) , except for when I have someone to beat at something, especially a friend for the bragging rights, where I wouldn’t mind bending the rules to win………..just if Arsenal would do that every so often!!!
